City of Dortmund Town Hall, Germany

A contemporary space for democratic culture – the renovation of Dortmund’s town hall brings together transparency, design precision, and technical excellence.

With the redesign of the council chamber at Dortmund’s City Hall, a space has been created that reflects the evolving needs of public governance – openness, dialogue, and design precision. A glazed partition connects the enlarged chamber to the adjacent civic hall, conveying accessibility and transparency. The interior concept continues into the neighbouring meeting rooms, where a consistent design language and refined materials define the atmosphere. In collaboration with Beck Objekteinrichtungen, Walter K. furnished the entire space – with furniture that stands for craftsmanship, clarity and lasting quality.

Bespoke Leadchair Executive with base on rails

The Leadchair Executive plays a central role in shaping the new interior. For this project, a custom version was developed: gliding silently on a concealed rail and still fully rotatable, it brings both technical refinement and comfort. Its slender silhouette creates a subtle contrast to the warm, bright wood of the chamber. Designed to integrate effortlessly into the architectural setting, the chair adds calm precision – and speaks the same language of purpose and restraint as the architecture around it.
