Ayabi Chair.

Design: Dai Sugasawa.

The Ayabi Chair transforms three-dimensionality into an experience. Delicate lightness, mathematically precise lines, and astonishing stability.

The chair’s visual lightness allows the beauty of its structure to shine through. Thus, despite its minimalist design, the Ayabi Chair embodies a sense of security and balance. What makes it special is the interweaving of its elements.

The discipline that must be mastered time and again:

minimalism—as little material as possible, as much as necessary.

Soft, flowing lines, arranged with mathematical precision.

In developing Ayabi, the challenge was to refine the perfect form and bring it to life through craftsmanship. The construction of the wire mesh chair follows organic lines; every point is defined, and every line is based on mathematically precise positions.

Like a crown, the custom-tailored leather strips follow the contour of the chair.

Particular attention has been paid to the chair’s distinctive appearance: by inserting the saddle leather elements into the wire structure, the chair’s iconic character emerges. The leather inlays were inspired by the planks of wooden decks on luxury yachts.

The combination of leather and steel creates a compelling yet harmonious contrast. The insert is fastened to the frame with buttons, ensuring that the wire mesh is no longer perceptible when seated. For the upper side, Saddle or Paco leather is available in a range of colours, while the underside is always finished in black.

The comfort cushion integrates seamlessly with the shell:

For enhanced seating and back comfort, the fabric cushions can be effortlessly clipped into place. Padded with a water-permeable mesh, the cushions ensure optimal comfort and, when upholstered in an outdoor-suitable fabric, are perfectly suited for outdoor use.

Enduring beauty

The corrosion-resistant hybrid chair is designed for both indoor and outdoor use.

Clear in form, refined in function: up to four chairs can be stacked effortlessly and stored to save space.

Design: Dai Sugasawa

The design was created in collaboration with Dai Sugasawa. The Japanese-born designer draws on nature as a structural framework for his designs, which appeal to both the functional and the emotional. The Ayabi Chair is the result of a five-year development process.
