Vostra Armchair.

Design: Walter K. Team.

Since 1949 Vostra has been a synonym for modern living: clear, minimalist, and lightly upholstered. The mid-century design’s modern, timeless lines make this small chair a much-loved classic in private and public spaces.

In the 1950s, this chair made a courageous statement about casual seating. Today once more it represents lifestyle. Unconventional and memorable, it was the sign of a new departure, and remains an example of the timeless quality of good design.

The story of the Vostra goes back to a design by Danish-American designer Jens Risom in the 1940s – a little beechwood chair with strap covers. When Hans Knoll, Walter K.’s son, emigrated to the USA and became independent, he included this piece of furniture in his collection and sent it to his father. Walter K. developed it into his own design of a chair with tubular steel feet and elaborate upholstery. In 1949 the classic went into production.
