Modern Icons: Fabricius Sofa.

Design: Preben Fabricius.

Preben Fabricius’ minimalist masterpiece. This icon is the result of many years of reflection, and a focus on form, material, and function. A reduced design was achieved without sacrificing comfort. Consistent and elegant – the armchair combines functional design with soft, informal seating comfort.

Fabricius originated in the late phase of Danish design. A seeker all his life, the Danish designer Preben Fabricius finally created his product masterpiece in 1972. A dispute between Fabricius and his partner Jørgen Kastholm was necessary in order to unleash new creative power, and a successful finished design.

In the highly graphic, linear armchair, everything that did not seem necessary was omitted. The steel structure provides the armchair with lightness and elegance. The suppleness of the leather and the soft cushions ensure a comfortable seat. The material is placed only where it is really needed. The logical interplay of aesthetics, function and construction was decisive for Fabricius. To this day, the design fits perfectly into very different settings, and its consistency and elegance continue to inspire.
