GEMÜ Headquarters, Kupferzell, Germany

The GEMÜ Headquarters becomes an architectural expression of the company’s transformation, making transparency and identity spatially tangible.

In Kupferzell, GEMÜ has realized a new headquarters spanning approximately 14,000 square meters. The contemporary office building brings together key corporate functions under one roof and creates space for exchange and collaboration. As an internationally active family-owned company specializing in valve, measurement, and control systems, GEMÜ gives spatial form to its ongoing development, articulating transparency and communication through architecture.

The architecture firm Schmelzle & Partner conceived the building as an atrium structure with clearly defined levels and a sense of vertical openness. In the interior, this architectural approach is further developed by Geplan Design, Stuttgart, particularly within the central communicative areas. It shapes the spatial identity of the building throughout—from the entrance and cafeteria to informal areas for interaction and exchange.

Atrium with Seating Stones

The ground floor opens with a generous foyer and a central atrium whose 22-meter-high void is filled with daylight. A suspended staircase and large-scale wall panels made of fiber-reinforced composite material define the vertical spatial experience and structure the openness of the building. Walter K. Seating Stones introduce sculptural elements that organize the areas surrounding the atrium while inviting informal use. Select elements in Corporate Red create deliberate contrasts within the otherwise restrained material palette.
To Seating Stones

The building organizes workspaces, meeting rooms, and shared areas in a clearly structured sequence. Open-plan zones alternate with quieter spaces, reinforcing the building’s vertical connectivity.

Executive lounge with 375 Barstool

On the top floor, the executive management area includes, alongside offices and conference rooms, an executive lounge conceived as a place for conversation in a relaxed setting.

Warm wood surfaces, natural materials, and a reduced palette of earth tones shape the atmosphere of the rooms. An integrated café zone with 375 upholstered bar stools provides a comfortable setting for informal conversations.

Schmelzle & Partner designed the headquarters as an atrium building, establishing a new spatial focal point at the Kupferzell site. The clear architectural concept has been recognized with numerous awards, including the German Design Award 2025 in the category ‘Excellent Architecture’, as well as other international architecture awards. With the new building, GEMÜ is deliberately investing in the site and strengthening the region over the long term.
